NEW FOR 2020
From renowned Hosta breeder Hans Hansen comes a new large gold hosta, Hosta Elatior hybrid x American Sweetheart. With golden yellow leaves, this is the perfect specimen for making a statement in the shade with its upright spreading habit and large smooth leaves. In midsummer, near white, tubular flowers appear with a very faint pale lavender central pattern on the interior petals. Plant in morning sun or filtered shade for best yellow color
NEW FOR US TO CARRY
Seedling of Donahue Piecrust from M. Seaver/C. Seaver, 2004. Forms a giant upright mound of blue-green heavily rippled foliage. The thick, 15 inch x 11 inch leaves are deeply veined and pointed. Flowers are light lavender seen in mid-summer.
Sometimes hybridizers have a good thing but still want to make it better. Lemon Kiss is an improvement on Bob Solberg's very popular Hosta Smiley Face. Bob has crossed Smiley Face back to Beet Salad. The result is a bright yellow very small hosta with good substance and intense red petioles.
According to Bob Solberg this is his next generation of yellow hostas with red petioles for 2018. The leaves are cupped upward to accentuate the red as it saturates the midrib sometimes to near the middle of the leaf. The cupping is a new leaf shape for this line of breeding with some puckers thrown in here or there. In mid-summer a very dark purple scape emerges with pretty purple striped flowers in a tight mass. A great breeder too.
'Lemon Zinger' is Bob Solberg's new green-margined sport of the increasingly popular 'Dragon Tails'. Its wavy bright yellow leaves are outlined in dark green. It is a vigorous little mini, perfect in a pot. It just might be your cup of tea.
NEW FOR 2020
This hosta is the result of a backcross of a Hosta Tom Terrific sibling back to its purple-petioled parent from Bob Solberg, 2019. The result is a very upright medium sized tetraploid hosta with pointed wavy leaves that have the vibrant yellow color of Hosta Key West and rich purple petioles up into the leaf blade.
NEW FOR 2020
This hosta is a cross of Hosta key West with a purple petiole breeder from Bob Solberg, 2018. It has rounded puckered leaves showing its H. sieboldiana heritage, and remains yellow all season. It is named for Tom Micheletti, past presient of the American Hosta Society, as well as the cartoon superhero on Captain Kangaroo.
NEW FOR 2020
([ 'Astral Bliss' x Purple Verticulated Elf' ] x Chabo unazuki) . This new almost mini from Don Dean, 2017, has just 4 inch leaves and stands only 8 inches high. It makes a very tight, flat mound of wavy very blue foliage that is folded into star shaped points. On the other hand it looks a bit prickly too. Medium lavender flowers in late summer.
NEW FOR US
Open pollinated seedling of Hosta Komodo Dragon from Ray Wiegand. It is huge like its parent and has nearly round 15 inch x 12 inch blue-green leaves which are corrugated, lightly cupped, and deeply veined with light ruffling on the edges. Leaves have a glaucous bloom on the top and bottom. Should make a beautiful upright specimen in your garden. Pale lavender flowers in mid-summer.
Cpmplex hosta from Don Dean. (((Color Fantasy x (Big Daddy x Big Daddy )) x Abiqua Drinking Gourd ) x (Love Pat x Popo)) This hosta is prized for holding its beautiful blue color long into the season, even when planted in 2/3 day of sun. Its large leaves emerge slowly, exhibiting a unique cupped, rippled, corrugated texture. They unfold slowly as they mature. Since they are of thick substance, the leaves are more slug resistant. Near-white flowers begin to appear in midsummer and last into late summer.
